Authors who publish with Energy Sustainability retain the copyright of their published work and grant the journal the right of first publication. Published articles are made available as open-access articles to support the wide dissemination of scientific knowledge in sustainable energy systems, renewable energy, power systems, smart grids, microgrids, energy storage, energy efficiency, energy policy, and related fields.

Unless otherwise stated, articles published in Energy Sustainability are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This license allows others to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse the published work, provided that proper credit is given to the original author(s), the article title, the journal, and the original source of publication.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts do not infringe upon the copyright or intellectual property rights of others. Any copyrighted material, including figures, tables, images, diagrams, datasets, or long text excerpts reproduced from other sources, must be properly cited and accompanied by written permission when required.

The journal allows authors to share and archive the published version of their articles in institutional repositories, personal websites, academic networking platforms, and other non-commercial platforms, provided that the original publication in Energy Sustainability is properly acknowledged.
