Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
Energy Sustainability is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and preventing publication malpractice. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, are expected to follow ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
Duties of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the submitted manuscript is original, accurate, and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Authors must:
- Submit only original work;
- Avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, and duplicate publication;
- Properly cite all sources used in the manuscript;
- Ensure that all listed authors have made significant contributions to the work;
- Obtain permission for copyrighted materials, figures, tables, or data used in the manuscript;
- Declare any conflict of interest;
- Disclose funding sources, if applicable;
- Ensure that research involving humans, animals, or sensitive data follows relevant ethical standards and approval requirements;
- Respond professionally to reviewers’ and editors’ comments.
Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for maintaining the academic quality and integrity of the journal.
Editors must:
- Evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit, originality, relevance, and clarity;
- Ensure that the peer-review process is fair, objective, and confidential;
- Avoid discrimination based on nationality, gender, religion, political belief, institutional affiliation, or personal background;
- Avoid conflicts of interest in handling manuscripts;
- Make editorial decisions based on reviewers’ comments and academic judgment;
- Protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;
- Take appropriate action when ethical concerns or publication misconduct are identified.
Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers support the editorial decision-making process by providing objective and constructive evaluations of submitted manuscripts.
Reviewers must:
- Review manuscripts objectively and professionally;
- Provide constructive comments to improve the manuscript quality;
- Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts;
- Avoid using unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for personal advantage;
- Declare any conflict of interest;
- Decline the review invitation if the manuscript is outside their expertise or if they cannot complete the review within the required time.
Duties of the Publisher
The publisher, Research Institute for Applied and Social Science (RIASS), Indonesia, supports the editorial team in maintaining academic integrity, publication quality, and ethical standards.
The publisher is responsible for:
- Supporting transparent editorial and publication processes;
- Ensuring the independence of editorial decisions;
- Maintaining the journal website and publication system;
- Supporting long-term access to published articles;
- Helping address publication ethics concerns when necessary.
Plagiarism and Similarity Check
All submitted manuscripts may be checked for similarity using plagiarism detection tools, such as Turnitin. The maximum acceptable similarity index is 20%. Manuscripts with excessive similarity, plagiarism, improper citation, or unattributed use of sources may be rejected or returned to the authors for correction before further editorial processing.
Conflict of Interest
Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may influence the manuscript evaluation or publication process.
Retraction and Correction
If serious errors, ethical violations, plagiarism, data fabrication, or duplicate publication are discovered after publication, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the case.
